Pastoral Overview

Student Welfare

A holistic approach to our students’ well-being is taken at the school. We try to ensure that children are looked after, so as to maximise their enthusiasm and learning while at school and beyond. Please look below to see our provision for your child.

Class teachers and tutors

Children are cared for by a comprehensive pastoral system where small classes or tutor groups are looked after by dedicated and experienced teachers.  The small group sizes mean that each child can get the individual attention they need and their teachers learn to fully understand the needs of the children in their class.

All staff are trained in safeguarding children and there are strong systems in place to provide support and guidance for all children.

We take all matters relating to children's well-being very seriously and have robust procedures in place so that if action is needed it is taken swiftly and effectively.

Counselling

Guidance and counselling exists to ensure that the social-emotional well-being of students is nurtured as situational or on-going needs are demonstrated. As a school committed to the holistic development and success of our students, counselling services play an important role.  Specialists who are familiar with child development stages, and are equipped to deal with some of the common related issues, are a very valuable resource. Services are utilised as a matter of routine for all students and parents at natural transition points, or in response to specific class or individual incidences that occur quite normally as children begin to mature. They may also be accessed on a confidential individual basis as required. Growing in self-knowledge is an important aspect of personal development and experiencing social and emotional ease in the school setting facilitates academic learning as well.

First Aid

A qualified nurse looks after our children’s medical, medication and first aid needs. The First Aid Station is located on our Primary Campus. Please consult with the School Secretary if your child needs to take any prescribed medication. We do not allow our students to take any medications without our prior knowledge and agreement.

RBIS has a Health and Safety Policy that will determine correct procedures in case of an accident or an emergency. The School Nurse will be the person that that decides whether your child will need any other further treatment beyond the school.
