Community Service Day One

It has been a very successful day, the children really enjoyed having fun with us. They were excited to see us and quickly joined in with the activities. We started off with introducing ourselves and then assigning them into groups so it would make it easier to involve all of us. We all saw a side of Micky that we've never seen before, he was surprisingly gentle and the younger children quickly joined in. Alex quickly became the favorite of the children. We then played board games with the children, while some joined the boys in the game of football.
We surveyed the library building, decided on our colour scheme and we would be ready to start our project tomorrow. We also have 3 helpers joining us tomorrow to help us replace the roof.

Community Service Day Two

Today the first part of our project was completed- the library now had a new roof. We were able to help with taking off the old roof and then watched as the new one was assembped .

We had time for games with the children - bingo is really popular with them. Once again the children loved pur company and we had many happy moments with them.

Today the school game as a Thai lunch it was really tasty especially the somtum. Heavy rain stopped us for a short while but then we had the opportunity to start our painting. Today we put the undercoat on the walls inside the library. Tomorrow we will begin putting the top coat on - yellow outside and green inside. Everything is beginning to come together which is great.

Community Service Day Three

Today was an eventful day but also very tiring. We spent all day painting and managed to paint the inside and outside of the library. We all took part. Some of it using rollers while so!e were using paint brushes. Bit by bit the room was transformed and we were really pleased with our work. The children were curious to see what we were doing and watched at every opportunity. By the end of the day we have completed the walls- the outside a pale yellow while the inside was a pastel green. Tomorrow we will paint the doors and windows and also aim to set up the RBIS reading corner.

I recall as a young boy I would be fascinated by many things. I remember being fascinated by how a wrist watch worked, before the times when watches had batteries, and my way to investigate this was to take my recently received Christmas present apart to find out. I was amazed at the intricacy of the mechanism I discovered and I probed deeper to try to increase my understanding.
